SHENGPENG
Artist based in Germany

SHENGPENG is an artist based in Germany, working primarily with painting.

The practice begins with the human figure and gradually moves toward questions of inner experience, vulnerability, transformation and the changing nature of existence.

Rather than describing a fixed reality, the paintings explore moments that are difficult to name — states of uncertainty, stillness, tension, intimacy and change.

Painting becomes a way of looking inward, while remaining attentive to the world and to the experiences shared by others.

Painting as a way
of paying attention.

I am interested in the space between what can be seen and what is felt.

For a long time, I painted faces and figures. The human face became a place through which I could observe emotion, silence, vulnerability and the many states that exist beneath an outward appearance.

My practice is gradually moving beyond the portrait. I am interested in creating images that carry a sense of inner movement — experiences of uncertainty, impermanence, attachment, loss, acceptance and transformation.

Painting is not only a way of making images for me. It is a way of paying attention.

Through painting, I try to remain with experiences rather than immediately explain them. Some works begin with a figure, while others emerge from a feeling, a memory or an intuitive gesture.

Underlying this process is an interest in impermanence and in the possibility of transformation: how what appears difficult, fragmented or unresolved can become a point of attention, understanding and change.

I do not want the paintings to provide fixed answers. I hope they can create a quiet space in which the viewer can encounter something of their own.
